Description

2,6-Dimethylcyclohexanone is a functional group that consists of two methyl groups and one cyclohexanone. It is the simplest representative of the class of compounds known as substituted cyclohexanones. This functional group is found in many organic compounds, such as ethylene diamine, hydrochloric acid, and magnesium oxide. 2,6-Dimethylcyclohexanone has an acidic hydrogen atom that can be protonated to form a dipole. The methyl ethyl isomer can be produced by hydrogenation of 2,6-dimethylcyclohexanone with hydrogen chloride or magnesium oxide.
