1,4-Dibromo-2-nitrobenzene is a functional chemical that is used in the synthesis of picolinic acid. It has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of serotonin uptake and receptor binding and also inhibits chloride uptake by cells. 1,4-Dibromo-2-nitrobenzene has been shown to be toxic to both the metal surface and the cell membrane, inhibiting cellular respiration. This compound has two isomers: cis and trans. The cis isomer is more potent than the trans isomer.
