Dibromobenzoic acid is a compound that belongs to the class of dibenzoylmethane derivatives. It is a ligand that can bind to metal ions and form supramolecular complexes with them. Dibromobenzoic acid has been shown to have tuberculostatic activity, which means it inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This compound has also been used in synthetic chemistry as a monomer for the synthesis of other compounds with similar structures. The synthesis of dibromobenzoic acid can be done by reacting 2,6-dihydroxybenzoic acid with bromine or phosphorus tribromide in an organic solvent at room temperature or above.
