- 2,2-Dimethylcyclopentanol
2,2-dimethylcyclopentanol is a chiral compound that has a vapor pressure of 0.0007 mmHg at 25 °C and a boiling point of 103 °C. It can be found in the environment as an environmental contaminant and has been detected in the air, water, soil, and sediment. 2,2-dimethylcyclopentanol is used as a borinic surrogate for methylphosphonofluoridate (MPF) in nerve agent analysis. 2,2-dimethylcyclopentanol has also been shown to be an effective surrogate for butyrophenone in 3-acetylpyridine synthesis and for potassium hydride in 4-phenyl-2-butanone synthesis. This chemical has not been shown to have any toxic effects on humans or animals at low concentrations.
