Description

Diphenyl Phosphite is a white, crystalline solid that is soluble in organic solvents. It has a molecular weight of 226.17g/mol and a melting point of 176°C. The chemical formula for this compound is C6H5O2P. Its reactivity can be described as phenol-like, due to the presence of a hydroxyl group on one end of the molecule. This compound reacts with air and light exposure, which causes it to degrade over time. Diphenyl Phosphite's antimicrobial activity may be due to its ability to cause oxidative stress in bacteria.
