Description :
2,9-Dichloro-1,10-phenanthroline is a tetradentate ligand that has been used in coordination chemistry. It is a functional group with two amide groups and three chlorine atoms. 2,9-Dichloro-1,10-phenanthroline can be broken down by acidic hydrolysis to form 2,9-dichlorophenol and phenanthrene. This compound has been used in the Suzuki coupling reaction and as a skeleton for metal complexes. The coordination of silver ions is important for the fluorescence of this compound. 2,9-Dichloro-1,10-phenanthroline can also be used as an intermediate for synthesizing dione and thione compounds.
