4-(Decyloxy)benzoic acid is a white crystalline solid that melts at 68-69 degrees Celsius. It has been used as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of esters, amides, and other organic compounds. 4-(Decyloxy)benzoic acid has been shown to be soluble in most common organic solvents. The melting point of this compound is relatively low and it is susceptible to heat-induced decomposition. 4-(Decyloxy)benzoic acid is an amphiphilic molecule that can form hydrogen bonds with other molecules. These bonds are stronger than those formed by nonpolar molecules such as octanol.
