N,N'-Diphenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine is a molecule that is used in the production of adriamycin, which is an anticancer drug. It has been shown to have toxic effects on liver cells when exposed to glycol ethers and fatty acids. N,N'-Diphenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine has been used in clinical studies involving dose groups and has shown to be safe at low doses. This molecule is a polymer and can coordinate with metals such as copper ion in a geometry that alters enzyme activities. N,N'-Diphenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine also inhibits cytochrome P450 enzymes. The biological effects of this molecule are not well understood but it has been shown to have vitamin activity.
