Description

4,4'-Diisocyanato-3,3'-dimethylbiphenyl is an organic compound that is used as a cross-linking agent in the production of polyurethane. 4,4'-Diisocyanato-3,3'-dimethylbiphenyl reacts with fatty acids to form esters and diesters. It also reacts with petrochemical monomers such as ethylene glycol and propylene oxide to form polyols. The cross-linking process can be accomplished using many different methods, including radiation and 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid. The resulting material has high water resistance and good thermal stability. 4,4'-Diisocyanato-3,3'-dimethylbiphenyl is soluble in organic solvents such as acetone or ethanol. This product is also an efficient method for producing functional groups on polymers such as hydroxyls or carboxylic acids.
