2,5-Difluorobenzyl chloride is an oxadiazole derivative that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of serotonin uptake by platelets. It also inhibits the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in cell culture, and has been shown to have a modulating effect on systemic diseases such as congestive heart failure and cirrhosis. 2,5-Difluorobenzyl chloride inhibits the binding of serotonin to its receptors by competing with serotonin for the same receptor site. This compound also has a structural formula similar to that of hydroxy group, which is used in many drugs as an allosteric modulator. The heterocycle group in this molecule may contribute to its inhibitory effects on growth regulators and heart disease.
