1,2-Dichloro-4-fluorobenzene is a protonated molecule that has a chloride and fluorine residue on opposite sides of the carbon. The proton is stabilized by the two electron withdrawing fluorine atoms. This compound has been shown to inhibit reuptake of neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine in rat brain synaptosomes, leading to depression and chronic pain, respectively. 1,2-Dichloro-4-fluorobenzene also inhibits the growth of ht-29 cell lines at concentrations of 2 μM or less. This compound also inhibits bladder cancer cells in both culture and animal models.
