Description

Dihydrogenistein 4'-methyl ether is a biochanin derivative that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It is a tetracyclic triterpene that belongs to the group of isoflavonoids. Biochanin A-7-O-glucoside is a product of the biochanin biosynthesis pathway that requires the enzyme, swartzia (SWZ) as well as acetate extract and chemical ionization. This product inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the ribosome, which alters protein synthesis. Dihydrogenistein 4'-methyl ether has shown antimicrobial activity against human pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties in humans by inhibiting prostaglandins synthesis.
