Description

2,6-Dichloro-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol is a chemical intermediate that has been used in the preparation of hydroquinone. It can be prepared by reacting 2,6-dichloro-4-hydroxyphenol with ethylene glycol and chlorinating the resulting product. 2,6-Dichloro-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol has been shown to inhibit the growth of Russula subnigricans and other fungi. The compound also inhibits fatty acid synthesis in bacteria such as E. coli and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
