• Description: 3,5-Di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol is a fatty acid ester that is used as an analytical reagent and polymerization initiator. It produces a high yield of polymer in the presence of calcium carbonate. The polymerization reaction is initiated by the addition of 2,2'-azobis(2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile) (AADVN). The polymerization reaction has been shown to be pH dependent with a ph optimum at 8.3. 3,5-Di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol has also been shown to have anticorrosive properties at high concentrations and inhibits coagulation factors that are involved in blood clotting.
