• Description: 2,4-Dimethoxycinnamic acid is a bile acid found in human bile. It is the product of 4-methoxycinnamic acid and hmg-coa reductase. 2,4-Dimethoxycinnamic acid has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cholesterol gallstones, which are caused by increased levels of biliary cholesterol. The inhibition of cholesterol synthesis by statins may contribute to the hypocholesterolemic effects that have been observed with 2,4-dimethoxycinnamic acid. In addition, 2,4-dimethoxycinnamic acid has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and inhibit platelet aggregation.
