Description

2,5-Dimethylacetophenone is an alcohol with a chiral center. It is synthesized by reacting chlorinating agents with the ligand periconia, which leads to high yield and regiospecificity. The reaction system can be carried out in solvents such as diethyl ether or dichloromethane. The product is obtained as a mixture of two stereoisomers (R and S) with the R form being more abundant than the S form due to steric effects.
2,5-Dimethylacetophenone has been shown to react with naphthylamine in the presence of a base to give N-(2,5-dimethylphenyl)naphthalene-1,4-diamine in good yield.
