3,5-Dimethoxy-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol is an organic compound that is a colorless liquid. It has a chemical formula of C14H20O4 and a molecular weight of 256.32. 3,5-Dimethoxy-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol occurs naturally in lignin and it can be found in the form of esters or ethers in plant resins such as coniferous or pine trees. This compound has been the target of many biological studies due to its possible applications in the treatment of cancer and other diseases. 3,5-Dimethoxy-4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol has been used as an anti-inflammatory agent, an antihistamine, an anticoagulant, and an antioxidant. It also has been used as a solvent for dyes and paints. The compound type is a syringic acid derivative (syringol).
