Dendrophenol is a natural compound that is found in the plant Dendrobium. This compound has significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells and is also reactive with squamous carcinoma. Dendrophenol has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, protozoans and insects. It has antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Dendrophenol has also been shown to induce apoptosis in vivo in human cells. The mechanisms of dendphenol-induced apoptosis are mediated through the mitochondrial membrane potential and caspase activation.
