N,N'-Dicarbamoylhydrazine is an organic compound that is used in wastewater treatment. The analytical method for this compound involves conversion to the sodium salt by reaction with sodium carbonate and magnesium salt. This product can be purified by recrystallization from water or ethanol. A tautomeric form of N,N'-dicarbamoylhydrazine can exist as either an iminium ion or a hydrazone ion, depending on pH. The reaction solution is then treated with methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) to produce the iminium ion form and fluorescence detector reagents to produce the hydrazone ion form.
