Cis-2,6-dimethylpiperazine is a protonated molecule that has potent antitumor activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and can be used as a medicine in cancer treatment. Cis-2,6-dimethylpiperazine is synthesized from piperazine by the addition of methyl groups at positions 2 and 6 on the nitrogen atom. The synthesis involves the use of hydrochloric acid and methyl chloride as starting materials. The product is purified by recrystallization. Cis-2,6-dimethylpiperazine has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity in 13C NMR spectroscopy studies on MRC-7 cells.
