Description

1,2-Dichlorofluoroethane (1,1-difluoroethane) is a fluorocarbon used as a solvent and as an industrial chemical. This compound has high resistance to water vapor and chlorine, which are common reactants in the environment. 1,2-Dichlorofluoroethane is also resistant to hydrogen fluoride (HF), which is used in the production of many chemicals. 1,2-Dichlorofluoroethane is not toxic to rats at high doses and does not pose a risk to human health. The molecular structure of 1,2-dichlorofluoroethane resembles that of other aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene and chlorobenzene. It may also have a role in the covid-19 pandemic. 1,2-Dichlorofluoroethane disrupts cellular targets by interfering with hydrogen chloride activation energies and chloride ion transport across cell membranes.
