Description

2,4-Difluorophenylhydrazine is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit the replication of hepatitis C virus and HIV in vitro. The antiviral activity of 2,4-difluorophenylhydrazine against the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) has been evaluated using the SR141716A cell culture system. The methodologies for synthesizing this compound are described below:

One approach uses acetonitrile as an acid catalyst and synthesizes 2,4-difluorophenylhydrazine through a pyrazole derivative by reacting 2-fluoroaniline with hydrazine hydrate in acetonitrile.

Another approach uses acid catalysis by reacting 2-fluoroaniline with acetic anhydride in aqueous ammonia to form the intermediate phenylaminohydrazide followed by hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid to give 2,4-
