Difluoromethanesulphonyl chloride is a non-toxic, colorless, and volatile liquid that is used as an organic solvent. It is mainly used in the synthesis of sulfonanilides and other aromatic hydrocarbons. Difluoromethanesulphonyl chloride reacts with zinc difluoromethanesulfinate to form zinc chloride and sulfur dioxide gas. This reaction produces a mixture that includes hydrogen fluoride gas and hydrogen sulfide gas. The product has been shown to be effective against autoimmune diseases by inhibiting the production of retinoic acid. Difluoromethanesulphonyl chloride is also used to produce trifluoromethylthiolation products, which are used in horticultural applications for increasing plant growth and yield efficiency.
