Description

Difluoroethane is a colorless gas with a boiling point of -21.1°C, and a melting point of -161.6°C. It has a chemical formula of CH2F2, molecular weight of 72.09 g/mol, and density of 1.0094 g/cm3. The experimental solubility data for Difluoroethane were found to be less than 0.01% in water at 25°C, which is not sufficient to cause any environmental concern. The hydrogen fluoride produced by the reaction of Difluoroethane with water is likely to be highly soluble in water, which means that it will have no significant impact on aquatic life or terrestrial plants. Difluoroethane also does not react with fatty acids or blood cells, so there are no toxic effects on these systems as well.
