Description

1,2-Dihydro-1,2-dihydroxy-12-fluoro-5-methylchrysene (1,2DFMC) is a synthetic compound that inhibits the growth of tumors. It is structurally similar to 3-methylcholanthrene and other carcinogens. 1,2DFMC has been shown to have a tumorigenicity in rats. 1,2DFMC binds to DNA and inhibits RNA synthesis by binding to the enzyme RNA polymerase II at the promoter region of genes. This leads to cell death and an inability for cells to replicate.
