Vineomycin B2 is a synthetic antibiotic that belongs to the class of macrocyclic antibiotics. It has bactericidal and antiparasitic properties, and is used in chemotherapy, as well as in treatment of viral and bacterial infections. Vineomycin B2 inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and preventing the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. This antibiotic also has antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties.
