Description

Ethyl 2-chloro-2-fluoroacetate is an antibiotic that belongs to the class of acyl halides. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding to a protein in the active site of a serine protease, which is essential for bacterial cell division. The compound has potent antibacterial activity and can be used as a treatment for infectious diseases caused by bacteria such as Salmonella, Shigella, and Staphylococcus. Ethyl 2-chloro-2-fluoroacetate is also used as an antimicrobial agent against Gram-positive bacteria such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium perfringens. This drug has been shown to inhibit nitric oxide uptake at low concentrations, leading to its use as an inhibitor of nitric oxide uptake in the central nervous system.
