Ethyl 2-amino-5-methylthiophene-3-carboxylate (EMTC) is a nonclassical amide that has been shown to be a potential antitumor agent. EMTC inhibits tumor growth by activating gene expression and inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. It inhibits the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins in tumor cells, leading to cell death. EMTC also inhibits the production of pyrimidine derivatives and thymidylate in cells. The x-ray crystal structures of EMTC have been determined, which may allow for the development of new drugs with similar activity.
