Ethyl 3-hydroxy-4,4,4-trifluorobutyrate is an organometallic compound that has been expressed in bacteria. It is a fluorinated benzoate and a member of the class of organometallic compounds. The synthesis of this compound was achieved by the use of an organometallic strategy with addition of additives. The reaction rate was constant and rapid with few side reactions observed. This product can be used as a biomimetic strategy to synthesize other organic compounds.
