2-Chloroethyl (2-CE) is a compound that is used in the synthesis of phytocompounds such as hexadecanoic acid, glomus, and polydentate. It can also be used to synthesize azulene, butanoic acid, and oroxylum indicum. 2-CE reacts with azulene to form a cyclobutane ring that can then undergo further reactions to form dioxane, which is a synthon for naphthalene and methyl ester.
