Ethyl 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzoate is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of ovarian cancer cell lines and pancreatic carcinoma cells in vitro. This compound also inhibits the production of DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis in cancer cells and induces apoptosis by binding to cellular ligands. Ethyl 3-amino-4-hydroxybenzoate is synthesized from ethyl 4-aminobenzoate using bifunctional coupling chemistry with N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide and 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride. The chemical yield for this reaction is 75%.
