Ethyl 4-[(cyanoacetyl)amino]benzoate is a nucleophilic compound that can be used as a synthetic substrate for the study of various enzymes. It has been shown to have antibacterial properties against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It also inhibits the growth of gram-positive organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Ethyl 4-[(cyanoacetyl)amino]benzoate is synthesized from cyanoacetamide and benzocaine in the presence of triazine and sodium methoxide.
