Ethyl thiophene-2-carboxylate is a functional group that can be used in the synthesis of organic compounds. It is an important precursor for the synthesis of polymers, dyes, and pharmaceuticals. The compound is obtained by reacting ethyl acetoacetate with sodium thiocyanate in liquid phase. This reaction requires a reaction system that includes a solvent such as chloroform or dichloromethane. Ethyl thiophene-2-carboxylate can be obtained by adding sodium sulfide to the solution of ethyl acetoacetate and hydrochloric acid.
