Ethyl 6-chloropicolinate is a picolinic acid derivative that is used as an inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This drug has been found to inhibit Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases by interfering with the activity of acetylcholinesterase. Ethyl 6-chloropicolinate inhibits the production of amyloid beta peptides in cells affected by Alzheimer's disease. It also has been found to have inhibitory effects on cellular processes like protein synthesis, ketoester formation and DNA replication.
