Description

1-Ethynyl-4-methoxy-2-methylbenzene (EMMB) is a chemical compound that has been shown to yield two different types of carbonaceous materials. The first type of material is graphitic carbon, which is a form of carbon with a very high surface area and an ability to adsorb many different types of molecules. The second type of material is copper coordination polymers. EMMB can be used as an additive to plastics or other materials in order to protect them from the effects of ultraviolet radiation, such as oxidation and photodegradation. EMMB also has the ability to absorb nitrogen dioxide (NO2) from the atmosphere, making it useful for environmental clean up projects.
