Description

Metformin is a biguanide drug that has been used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Metformin hydrochloride is an off-white to light yellow crystalline powder with a molecular weight of 252.24 and a solubility of 2 g/L in water. It is soluble in acetonitrile, insoluble in methanol, and slightly soluble in ethanol. Metformin hydrochloride contains the active ingredient metformin, which has been shown to act by reducing hepatic glucose output, improving peripheral insulin sensitivity and decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose.
