Description

(+/-)-cis-7,8-Epoxy-2-methyloctadecane is a synthetic pheromone that inhibits the population growth of lepidoptera. It is used as a pest control agent to reduce populations of insect pests such as corn borers and codling moths. The stereoselective nature of (+/-)-cis-7,8-epoxy-2-methyloctadecane means it can be used against pests that are resistant to other pheromones. This compound binds to specific receptor cells in the antennae and prothorax of target insects, which then causes an inhibitory effect on their behaviour and physiological functions.
