Description

Ethyl cyclohexylideneacetate is a labile compound that can be synthesized via the catalytic asymmetric synthesis of ethyl cyclohexene-1,1-dicarboxylate with tetrahydrofuran. This synthetic process involves an exchange of one electron between the two reactants, which is a catalyst for the reaction. This product has been shown to inhibit the activity of gabapentin (a drug used to treat epilepsy), phosphoranes, and aldehydes. The stability of this compound depends on its environment, as it is susceptible to light and heat. Ethyl cyclohexylideneacetate can be converted into dianions by treatment with trifluoride or boron trifluoride etherate, which are strong bases.
