Emoxipine is a pharmacological agent that inhibits the uptake of iron in the body. It has been shown to be effective in models of iron homeostasis, such as the methyl ethyl test, which measures the ability of cells to take up methylene blue from a solution containing ferric ammonium citrate. Emoxipine also has chemiluminescence properties and is used for biochemical research. This drug may have potential for treating bowel diseases because it affects energy metabolism and disease activity. Structural analysis has revealed that emoxipine is an analog of chlorpromazine with an oxazole ring system on one side and a piperidine ring system on the other.
