- Eptifibatide Acetate
Eptifibatide is a drug that is used in the treatment of myocardial infarcts. It is a disulfide-containing peptide with pharmacological activity that inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion to the vascular endothelium. It also prevents the development of coronary thrombosis and restenosis after balloon injury. Eptifibatide binds to the αIIbβ3 integrin receptor on platelets, which blocks the binding of fibrinogen, factor VIIa, and von Willebrand factor to this receptor. Eptifibatide has been shown to be effective in experimental models of myocardial infarcts and has not shown significant cytotoxicity at doses up to 100 mg/kg in mice. However, it may interact with other drugs that affect platelet function such as sodium citrate or warfarin.
