Description

Estradiol 17-propionate is a synthetic steroid that is structurally different from the estradiol hormone. It is an alveolar type of estradiol and has been shown to have similar properties as the natural hormone, with enzyme activities that are proportional to its concentration. Estradiol 17-propionate has been shown to be effective in reducing pulmonary inflammation and edema in rats. It also has a high affinity for estrogen receptors and can be used as a pharmaceutical dosage. Estradiol 17-propionate binds to the estrogen receptor and stimulates transcription of genes, causing effects that are similar to those of other estrogens. The drug has been shown to have a linear regression analysis with lucigenin chemiluminescence in Sprague-Dawley rats, which may indicate it is involved in oxidative injury.
