Ethyl 2-benzylacetoacetate is a molecular model that can be used to study the properties of organic compounds. It has been shown to have potent antiviral properties and to inhibit the growth of bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Ethyl 2-benzylacetoacetate also inhibits an enzyme called anhydrase, which is required for the production of hydrogen peroxide. The inhibition of this enzyme prevents the formation of free radicals, which are responsible for tissue damage in cells infected by viruses or bacteria. This molecule also has antibacterial properties due to its ability to form a hydrogen bond with chloride ions.
