Ethylenediaminediacetic acid dipropionic acid is a diamine tetraacetic acid that contains two nitrogen atoms. This compound is used in biological treatment as a cationic surfactant and has been shown to be effective against papilloma virus. It reacts with magnesium salt to form an acid complex, which can react with d-alanine to form ethylene diamine. Ethylenediaminediacetic acid dipropionic acid is prepared by reacting ethylene diamine with propionate and then heating the mixture under pressure until it decomposes. The product can be purified by distillation or crystallization.
