Description :
Ethyl 2-cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-quinolyl-3-carboxylate is a lactonization inhibitor. It inhibits the activity of reductase, an enzyme that is involved in the biosynthesis of cholesterol. Ethyl 2-cyclopropyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-quinolyl-3-carboxylate can be used to treat hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis by inhibiting the production of cholesterol. This product can also be used as a calcium salt to lower serum levels of triglycerides and increase HDL levels in patients with familial hypertriglyceridemia type I. This compound undergoes hydrolysis to form pitavastatin calcium, which is a phosphorus salt.
