2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate is a film-forming polymer that can be used as a substrate for coating and adhesion. It is a glycol ether with high resistance to radiation, light exposure, and heat. 2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate has been shown to have a thermal expansion of 10 × 10/°C, which is 1/5 that of polyurethane. The polymer is also hydrophobic, which means it does not dissolve in water and can be used for applications that require impermeability to water.
2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate is synthesized from ethylene oxide and caprylic acid, which are mixed in an organic solvent such as methyl myristate or propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate. This mixture undergoes esterification by sodium carbonate or potassium carbonate at temperatures between 200 °C and 300 °C, forming the desired product
