- Ethyl 5-Bromo-2-Furancarboxylate
Ethyl 5-bromo-2-furoate is a sulfonate that has been used to synthesize other compounds, such as amides and anhydrides. It is also used in the synthesis of trifluoromethylthiolation reagents. The compound can be produced by cross-coupling reactions with chlorides, bromides, or iodides. Ethyl 5-bromo-2-furoate can be recycled from chlorinated products by distillation of the solvent and evaporation of the organic phase. This process typically leaves behind about 10% chloride. The reaction proceeds at room temperature in a vacuum oven under an inert atmosphere, which eliminates the need for any special conditions or solvents.
