• Description: Ethyl 2-[(2-chloroacetyl)amino]-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-benzothiophene-3-carboxylate is an alkylating agent that has shown antiviral activity against RNA viruses. It inhibits the synthesis of viral proteins by binding to nucleic acids. This compound also has been shown to inhibit the growth of some bacteria and fungi. Ethyl 2-[(2-chloroacetyl)amino]-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-benzothiophene-3-carboxylate binds to the 5'-terminal nucleotide of a growing nucleotide chain in DNA or RNA and prevents further elongation of the chain by competitive inhibition with other nucleotides.
