Description

Ethyl 3-mercaptopropionate is a chemical compound that is used for the synthesis of polymers. It is obtained by the reaction between ethyl chloride and thiourea. Ethyl 3-mercaptopropionate can be recycled, so it does not need to be synthesized from scratch. It has a high affinity for chloride ions, which makes it useful in the production of polymer films. The presence of functional groups on its structure allows it to undergo nucleophilic substitutions with other substances. The film-forming ability of this compound makes it suitable as a matrix material in solid-phase synthesis reactions. This compound can be used to produce various types of polymers, including polyurethane, polyesters and acrylics. When used as a polymerization initiator, ethyl 3-mercaptopropionate can increase the yield of synthetic products by up to 50%.
