Description

2-Ethyl-3-hydroxy-6-methylpyridine hydrochloride (HMP) is a medicine that is used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. It has shown to have cytostatic and cytotoxic effects on various cell lines in vitro. HMP has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, which are responsible for many secondary infections in immunocompromised patients. HMP also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines in cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit phosphorylation of protein kinase C.
