1,2-Epoxyheptane is a chemical that belongs to the class of epoxides. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet odor. This compound is used as an additive in polyvinyl chloride and other plastics. 1,2-Epoxyheptane is also used as an immobilizing agent for enzymes and can be applied to the separation of stereoisomers using column chromatography. It has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against bacteria, fungi, and algae. 1,2-Epoxyheptane can be synthesized through enzymatic methods or by reacting diisopropylamine with diastereomeric sulfonic acids.
